ACE^TM POROUS MACADAM

Ace^TM is a porous open graded macadam, specially designed for tennis surfaces and is usually installed with a colour sprayed acrylic paint finish. It is free draining to clear quickly of water following rainfall.

Ace^TM multi-play is a porous medium graded formulation and is used for multi use applications, where an increase in durability is achieved at the expense of a slight reduction in the rate of water passing through the surface. It is also more usual to colour these surfaces with polyurethane paint, although rapid developments are taking place in acrylic polyurethane blends, which may in time replace the use of polyurethane.

A binder can be spray applied immediately prior to the application of the acrylic paint to add to the strength of the surface and improve the bond between the paint and the macadam. It is particularly recommended for courts that will be used intensively or where there is shading on parts of the court surface from trees or hedges. Overhanging trees are to be avoided, but where it is not possible, a binder will give some added protection to the macadam in this vulnerable position.

Recommended best practice for all sports macadam is to have a two layer system comprising a base (binder course) that provides a stable base to receive the playing surface layer. However single layer applications can be suitable, most commonly for courts that will not be intensively used and the slightly wider tolerances that apply to single layer installations are acceptable for the standard of play required.
